Comet Crusader Guide

by Taong

Comet Crusader (CC) is a physical synergy DPS with good to very good damage in small bossing and decent damage in big bossing.
However, he will always lose to big bossing dps characters since he has no high damage scaling.
He is a very simple character to play with no passives and character system to think about. His skill pool is majorly instant-cast and he usually makes use of his entire skillbar, making the gameplay versatile and always optimizeable.
However, if the player is low ERP, there might be a lot of Mana issues.

His synergy is valuable and to some extend unique, giving the team:

> 23% physical defense shred
> 15% physical damage taken

QoL for the team:
> Super Armor
> cooldown acceleration (1.3x)
> a good amount of mana regeneration (200%; double. This can help proc El-Lord Accessories as this makes the pets spam their skills a lot more)
> 8% multiplicative attack speed
> emergency freeze skill (5 seconds, master skill stage 3+4)

Defensive QoL:
> 50% damage absorption (NOT damage reduction!)
> minimum 30% multiplicative attack debuff ( if he gets hit, chance to debuff an additional 30% attack power)

Passives:

during gameplay, there is no relevant passive or character system, however these are something to take in mind:

>always stay in berserk awakening, as you get +30% max HP ontop of 30% atk.
→ Also, none of your skills will consume canonballs, making chung’s character system useless
>Make sure you have at least 1000 all resistences, since the passive Elemental Training gives you 10% asd if you do
>Using Shout Skills (Iron Howl, Pandemonium, Caladbolg, Rapid Guardian,Bethel) will debuff the boss defense and atk
-10% atk (3 stacks, aka 30%atk) and -5% defense (3 stacks, aka 15% phys. defense) for 20 seconds (One Cast of Iron Howl and Mod Caladbolg will instantly stack this)
>If you get hit by the boss you will debuff his atk (10% chance to debuff him 10% atk for 5 seconds (5 second duration, 3stacks: max 30% atk debuff)
>you get +40% mana from all mana related pots, meaning you will get 90% mana even though you are using a 50% mana pot
(with guild passive its +25%= 115%=100%)

Primary Skill-Pool:

These are the relevant skills cc uses in pve gameplay.
Main and Filler DPS-Skills, aswell as buff and debuffs, are always present in every skillbar.

Skillbars:

DPS

*The active Surprise Attack can be changed with Land Smash depending on boss
Clearing:

Skillbar for Leveling CC to level 99 is at the bottom of the guide

Skill Rotation:

Make sure that before using any DPS-Skill you have both debuffs iron howl and pandemonium aswell as the buffs Rapid Guardian and Land Demolisher uptime.
Since iron howl is only 5 seconds duration you need to recast it often. Pandemonium needs to be recast every 15 seconds.
Spam Wonderwall because it can break. If you use it only every 10 seconds chances will be high that your team can’t tank properly.
(Detailed Explanations at the bottom of the guide)
Generally prioritize Lunatic Fury, unless special conditions allow for Bethel or [Mod] Wonderwall, see below for explanation.
The rest is really just the skill rotations of any other DPS, CC has nothing special to care about.
Make sure to use Titles 15-6 for free skillcast and Grotto (13-5) for reducing cooldowns

Recommended Armor Build:

Rigomor: Cerulean
Tenebros: Skill Reset
Exascale: Blue Exascale or Red Reset

CC’s skills are all either instacast or very fast cast.
Almost all of his skills deal damage, you will end up running out of skills fast, and you don’t particularly care which skill gets reset.
As long as you have minimum 10% skill reset you are fine. Avoid Continuos Damage Red Exascale/Crimson/Titan Slayer at all costs, as this is a big damage loss!
Before the Armor Skilltype-Damage patch Red Reset was the best set for cc, since he doesn’t need a high amount of reset
After the patch, and i can speak from own experience, blue Exascale is by far better for CC in both damage and comfort.

Explanation of all relevant skills:

Trans Slot DPS -Skills:

Buffs:

Debuffs:

Filler-DPS-Skills:

>if you had to replace/prioritize one, always replace Artillery Nova, as the slow skillcast of Artillery Nova is not worth it over Caladbolg
>play both with heavy trait
>on very small bossing prioritizing both of these over bethel will be definitely better, since 14k% and 11k% independent of size are stronger than bethel’s ~10k%

One slot is free for whatever is the most suitable for the moment:

> During DPS it’s one of the actives

Why use actives? - Actives help you proc El-lord Accessories and Attributes, you can’t 100% depend on your pet since it can possibly bug (best example is 21-5 where pets often just stop attacking due to bug)
or maybe you have a pet that doesn’t proc on-hit at all, making you lose DPS (the best pets are Mellow (free from event dungeon, Snowy and Rosso/Berthe CM pet) Snowy>Mellow>Rosso>Berthe

→ i generally use surprise attack, since it doesn’t push the boss (example 15-6-3) and doesn’t dash more than lunatic fury; unlike the other active)
i recommend switching between both surprise attack and landsmash, since land smash proccs way better
if you dont dash around i’d always prefer land smash

> Brave Heart (Scare Chase Mod E) can be useable for DPS but it’s very weak and not recommended
→ i even think this is a waste of time despite being insta-cast, you are better off proccing attributes and El-Lord Accessories using one of the actives
→ it could be viable during clearing, since it can push enemies a little, but it’s very weak even in just the clearing itself

> In special scenarios, Guardian Rage can be viable (example 21-2) to quickly get to the other side of the boss
→ this is also usable in clearing
→ I don’t recommend it in the main skillbar because it makes you lose positioning for lunatic fury

→ Guardian Rage (Mod) can be viable in clearing, very niche but mentionable

> During clearing Brutal Swing can sometimes be viable
→ however, since there are simply better options, this is not that great
→ it used to be a viable DPS-Skill with 17,582.4% damage in the corner but is now no longer used due to the long casting time

Tips and extra information:

> To circumveit mana issues i highly recommend putting mana potion in automatic pet activation.
Prioritize MP max over mpr, make sure that mpr gets maxed too (hence why you want high ERP)

> Try to have at least 126% attack speed, gameplay will become very comfortable and smooth
To visualize the improvement, here are two comparisons:

^116% attack speed

^127% attack speed

Explanation of Wonderwall’s Damage Absorb:

Wonderwall DPS Calculations:

Mod Wonderwall’s Damage Formula:

(1703 x n) + 681)% x 1,44
> n = number of explosions (entities getting wonderwall)
> 1703 = explosion damage
> 681 = cast attack damage
> 1,44 = heavy trait

Notable extra info:
> if a summon disppears or is recast, it will explode on its own
> if Wonderwall runs out, it will explode
> if shield HP reaches 0, it explodes early
> if Wonderwall is recast, it explodes early

Visualization of DA’s Mod Dissent orb expiring, exploding on its own
